The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 He created man from a clot of blood. 2 Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 However, (all things) will return to your Lord. 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
