The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Read with the name of your Lord Who created, 1 created man from a clot of congealed blood. 2 Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 Teacheth man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 or if he commands others to maintain piety!? 12 Tell me if he (the disbeliever, Abu Jahl) denies (the truth, i.e. this Quran), and turns away? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah doth see? 14 Nay, if he desist not, We shall most surely drag him down upon his forehead 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
