The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- 4 He taught the human being what he did not know. 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, pay thou no heed to him, but prostrate thyself [before God] and draw close [unto Him]! ۩ 19
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.

Notes and Instructions
قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
