The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Read! In the name of your Lord, who created: 1 He created man from a clot. 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then let him summon his council, 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
