The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord who created - 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 He taught the human being what he did not know. 5 By no means: Verily man exorbitateth. 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 HAST THOU ever considered him who tries to prevent 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)? 12 What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We will call the angels of Hell. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
