The Embryo (Al-Alaq)

In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists), 1 Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: 2 Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,- 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 No! [But] indeed, man transgresses 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 A lying, sinful forehead. 16 Then let him summon his council, 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
