The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 created the human from a (blood) clot. 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
