The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists), 1 Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 No! [But] indeed, man transgresses 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)? 12 What will happen if the prohibiting rejects the Truth and turns away from it!? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 By no means! If he desist not We shall seize and deal him by the forelock 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
True are the words of God the Almighty.
