The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
(Muhammad), read in the name of your Lord who created (all things). 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 Who hath taught mankind by the pen 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 a servant [of God] from praying? 10 Do you think he is rightly guided, 11 Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)? 12 What will happen if the prohibiting rejects the Truth and turns away from it!? 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 No, not at all. Never obey him. But prostrate yourself and become nigh (to your Lord). ۩ 19
True are the words of God the Almighty.
