The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 What do you think? Have you seen he who forbids 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 Have you considered if he were on the right way, 11 He would enjoin piety, so how good it would be! 12 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 13 Does he not know that Allah does see? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinful forehead. 16 So let him call on his concourse! 17 We shall call on the guards of Hell. 18 Yes indeed; do not listen to him and prostrate, and become close to Us. (Command of Prostration # 14) ۩ 19
