The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read with the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?- 11 Or he commandeth piety? 12 Have you thought that if he denies and turns away, 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
