The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Read with the name of your Lord Who created, 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 Who hath taught mankind by the pen 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 Have you considered if he were on the right way, 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)? 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 We, will call the Zabania (the harsh angels of Hell). 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
God the Almighty always says the truth.
