The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Read - for thy Sustainer is the Most Bountiful One 3 who taught by the pen, 4 He taught the human being what he did not know. 5 No! [But] indeed, man transgresses 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 What do you think? Have you seen he who forbids 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 A lying, sinful forehead. 16 Then let him summon his council, 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
