The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 Because he considers himself self-sufficient. 7 However, (all things) will return to your Lord. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
