The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Despite this, the human being still tends to rebel 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 a worshipper from praying? 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock; 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 Then, let him call his assembly, 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
