The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 He created man from a clot of blood. 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 The One Who taught man all what he did not know. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). 8 Did you see him who forbids 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 Or he commandeth piety? 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock; 15 by the lying forelock steeped in sin. 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)! 18 Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abu Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allah! ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
