The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists), 1 Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 As he bethinkest himself selfsufficient. 7 Surely to your Lord is the return. 8 Did you see him who forbids 9 a worshipper from praying? 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Does he not realize that God sees him? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 Beware! Do not obey him, but bow in adoration and draw near (to your Lord). ۩ 19
