The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord who created - 1 created man from a clot of congealed blood. 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 Who taught by the pen - 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 Have you considered if he were on the right way, 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 13 Does he not realize that God sees him? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
