The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 He created man from a clot. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 Because he sees himself free from want. 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 HAST THOU ever considered him who tries to prevent 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 or if he commands others to maintain piety!? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 By no means! If he desist not We shall seize and deal him by the forelock 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
True are the words of God the Almighty.
