The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 He created man from a clot of blood. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 Beware! Do not obey him, but bow in adoration and draw near (to your Lord). ۩ 19
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
