The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 Who has taught (the writing) by the pen [the first person to write was Prophet Idrees (Enoch)]. 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?- 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 Then let him summon his council, 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
