The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 He created man from a clot of blood. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 a worshipper from praying? 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]. ۩ 19
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
