The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists), 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 HAST THOU ever considered him who tries to prevent 9 a servant [of God] from praying? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 or if he commands others to maintain piety!? 12 Tell me if he (the disbeliever, Abu Jahl) denies (the truth, i.e. this Quran), and turns away? 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 Nay, if he desist not, We shall most surely drag him down upon his forehead 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 We shall call on the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
