Such was the authoritative reasoning that We gave Abraham over his people. We raise whomever We want to a higher rank. Your Lord is All-wise and All-knowing. 83 We gave him Isaac and Jacob, each of whom We guided as We had guided Noah before. Among his descendants were David and Solomon, and Job, Joseph, Moses and Aaron. Thus do We reward the righteous. 84 We also gave guidance to Zacharias, John, Jesus, and Elias, who were all pious people, 85 and Ishmael, Elisha, Jonah, and Lot whom We exalted over all people. 86 And some of their ancestors and their descendants and their brothers; and We chose them and guided them to the Straight Path. 87 This is Allah's guidance, He guides thereby whom He pleases of His servants; and if they had set up others (with Him), certainly what they did would have become ineffectual for them. 88 Those were the people to whom We gave the Book and the Law and the Prophethood. But if they reject these things We shall entrust them to a people who will not deny. 89 Those were whom Allah guided. Follow then their guidance and say: 'I do not ask you a wage for it.
