And We created you, then fashioned you, then told the angels: Fall ye prostrate before Adam! And they fell prostrate, all save Iblis, who was not of those who make prostration. 11 (Allah) said: "What prevented you (O Iblis) that you did not prostrate, when I commanded you?" Iblis said: "I am better than him (Adam), You created me from fire, and him You created from clay." 12 He (Allah) said: 'Descend from it! This is no place for you to be proud. Begone, you are of the humiliated' 13 He said: "Give me respite till the day they are raised up." 14 Said He (Allah): 'you are among the respited' 15 [Satan] said, "Because You have put me in error, I will surely sit in wait for them on Your straight path. 16 And I shall come upon them from the front and behind, right and left; and You will not find among them many who would give thanks." 17 (Allah) said: "Get out from this, disgraced and expelled. If any of them follow thee,- Hell will I fill with you all. 18 And said, “O Adam! You and your wife dwell in Paradise – therefore eat from it from wherever you wish, and do not approach this tree for you will become of those who transgress.” 19 Then Satan created apprehensions in their hearts in order to disclose to them matters of their shame which were hidden from them, and said, “Your Lord has forbidden you from this tree, for you may become angels or immortals.” 20 And he swore unto them, "Verily, I am of those who wish you well indeed!" 21 Thus did he lead them on with guile. And when they tasted of the tree their shame was manifest to them and they began to hide (by heaping) on themselves some of the leaves of the Garden. And their Lord called them, (saying): Did I not forbid you from that tree and tell you: Lo! Satan is an open enemy to you? 22 They replied, "Lord, we have done injustice to our souls. If You will not forgive us and have mercy on us, we shall certainly have incurred a great loss." 23 He said: Go down (from hence), one of you a foe unto the other. There will be for you on earth a habitation and provision for a while. 24 He told them that, on earth, they would live, die, and be resurrected. 25
