Never have We sent a Prophet to a place without trying its people with adversity and hardship that they may humble themselves. 94 Then We gave them good in the place of evil until they became many and said: Distress and happiness did indeed befall our fathers. Then We took them by surprise while they did not perceive. 95 And if the people of the towns had believed and had the Taqwa (piety), certainly, We should have opened for them blessings from the heaven and the earth, but they belied (the Messengers). So We took them (with punishment) for what they used to earn (polytheism and crimes, etc.). 96 Are the people of the townships then secure from the coming of Our wrath upon them as a night-raid while they sleep? 97 Or, did the people of the towns then feel secure against the coming of Our Punishment in the forenoon while they play? 98 Did they consider themselves secure from the retribution of God? No one can have such attitude except those who are lost. 99
