The chiefs of the people of Fir'awn said: verily this is a magician knowing. 109 who desires to expel you from your land; what do you command?' 110 They answered: "Let him and his brother wait awhile, and send unto all cities heralds 111 “To bring all the expert magicians to you.” 112 And the magicians came to Firaun, and said, “Will we get some reward if we are victorious?” 113 Pharaoh replied, "Certainly, and you shall also become my courtiers." 114 They said: O Musa! either thou cast down, or we shall be the ones to cast down. 115 Said Moses: "Throw ye (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them: for they showed a great (feat of) magic. 116 And [then] We inspired Moses, "Throw down thy staff!" - and lo! it swallowed up all their deceptions: 117 ۞ Thus the Truth prevailed and their false art was banished. 118 The magicians who were defeated on the spot and were proved to be worthless, 119 But the sorcerers fell down prostrate in adoration. 120 Crying: We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 121 “The Lord of Moosa and Haroon.” 122 Said Pharaoh: "Believe ye in Him before I give you permission? Surely this is a trick which ye have planned in the city to drive out its people: but soon shall ye know (the consequences). 123 Surely I shall have your hands and feet cut off upon alternate sides. Then I shall crucify you every one. 124 They said: Lo! We are about to return unto our Lord! 125 Thou takest vengeance on us only forasmuch as we believed the tokens of our Lord when they came unto us. Our Lord! Vouchsafe unto us steadfastness and make us die as men who have surrendered (unto Thee). 126
