The elders of Pharaoh's people said: 'Surely this man is a skilful magician 109 who seeks to drive you from your land what do you command' 110 They said: "Put him and his brother off (for a time), and send callers (men) to the cities to collect (and) - 111 And bring up to thee all (our) sorcerers well-versed." 112 So there came the sorcerers to Pharaoh: They said, "of course we shall have a (suitable) reward if we win!" 113 He answered: Yes, and surely ye shall be of those brought near (to me). 114 So they said: "O Moses, you may cast your spell first, or we shall cast ours." 115 Moses said: 'You throw.' So when they threw [their rods], they enchanted the eyes of the people, and struck them with awe, and produced a mighty sorcery. 116 And We inspired Moses (saying): Throw thy staff! And lo! it swallowed up their lying show. 117 ۞ So the truth was established, and abolished was what they were doing. 118 Thus they were vanquished there, and they went back abased. 119 And the magicians flung themselves prostrate. 120 They said: We believe in the Lord of the worlds, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron.' 122 Firon said: Do you believe in Him before I have given you permission? Surely this is a plot which you have secretly devised in this city, that you may turn out of it its people, but you shall know: 123 "Surely, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then I will crucify you all." 124 They said: "Verily, we are returning to our Lord. 125 "And you take vengeance on us only because we believed in the Ayat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, etc.) of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience, and cause us to die as Muslims." 126
