Said the eminent among the people of Pharaoh, "Indeed, this is a learned magician 109 who seeks to drive you from your land!" Pharaoh said, "What then do you advise?" 110 Others said: 'Put them off a while, he and his brother, and send forth to your cities gatherers 111 to summon every skilful magician to your presence.' 112 And the sorcerers came to Pharaoh, saying, 'We shall surely have a wage, if we should be the victors?' 113 He said, "Yes, and, [moreover], you will be among those made near [to me]." 114 They said: O Musa! will you cast, or shall we be the first to cast? 115 He answered: "You throw [first]." And when they threw down [their staffs,] they cast a spell upon the people's eyes, and struck them with awe, and produced mighty sorcery. 116 And [then] We inspired Moses, "Throw down thy staff!" - and lo! it swallowed up all their deceptions: 117 ۞ Thus the truth was upheld, and the falsehood that they practised was exposed. 118 Thus were they there defeated and brought low. 119 and the sorcerers prostrated themselves, 120 They said, 'We believe in the Lord of all Being, 121 The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 But Pharaoh said: "You have come to accept belief in Him without my permission! This surely is a plot you have hatched to expel the people from the land. You will soon come to know. 123 “I swear I will cut off your hands and your feet from alternate sides and then crucify you all.” 124 They replied, "We shall surely return to our Lord. 125 And what is it for which thou takest vengeance on us save that we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came unto us? Our Lord! pour out upon us perseverance and cause us to die as Muslims. 126
