Said the chieftains of Firaun’s people, “He is really an expert magician.” 109 Who wants to expel you from your land [through magic], so what do you instruct?" 110 Then they advised Pharaoh: 'Put off Moses and his brother for a while, and send forth heralds to your cities 111 to summon every skilful magician to your presence.' 112 And the magicians came to Firaun, and said, “Will we get some reward if we are victorious?” 113 Pharaoh replied: 'Certainly, and you shall be among those who are near to me.' 114 They said: O Musa! will you cast, or shall we be the first to cast? 115 He [Musa (Moses)] said: "Throw you (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them, and they displayed a great magic. 116 And We revealed to Moses: 'Cast thy staff!' And lo, it forthwith swallowed up their lying invention. 117 ۞ Thus truth was confirmed, and all that they did was made of no effect. 118 And thus were they vanquished there and then, and became utterly humiliated. 119 And the magicians flung themselves prostrate. 120 They said, 'We believe in the Lord of all Being, 121 “The Lord of Moosa and Haroon.” 122 The Pharaoh said to the magicians, "You declared your belief in him (Moses) without my permission. This is a plot to throw my people out of their city. But you will soon know. 123 Surely I shall have your hands and feet cut off upon alternate sides. Then I shall crucify you every one. 124 They said: "For us, We are but sent back unto our Lord: 125 "And you take vengeance on us only because we believed in the Ayat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, etc.) of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience, and cause us to die as Muslims." 126
