The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said, "This is most surely a skillful magician, 109 He intends to turn you out of your land. What counsel do you then give? 110 They said: "Keep him and his brother in suspense (for a while); and send to the cities men to collect- 111 to summon every skilful magician to your presence.' 112 And the sorcerers came to Pharaoh, saying, 'We shall surely have a wage, if we should be the victors?' 113 Pharaoh replied, "Certainly, and you shall also become my courtiers." 114 The magicians asked Moses, "Will you throw your staff first or shall we?" 115 He said, "Throw," and when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck terror into them, and they presented a great [feat of] magic. 116 And We inspired Moses (saying): Throw thy staff! And lo! it swallowed up their lying show. 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed, and that which they had brought vanished. 118 Thus there and then they were vanquished and overthrown, humiliated. 119 And the wizards fell down prostrate, 120 They said, 'We believe in the Lord of all Being, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron!" 122 Firon said: Do you believe in Him before I have given you permission? Surely this is a plot which you have secretly devised in this city, that you may turn out of it its people, but you shall know: 123 I will cut off your hands and feet on alternate sides and then crucify you all!" 124 They said: Lo! We are about to return unto our Lord! 125 You only take revenge on us because we believed in the Lord when we saw His miracles. Lord, grant us patience and let us die Muslims (submitted to God)." 126
