Al-A 'araaf 14 of 24
The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said: Lo! this is some knowing wizard, 109 He intends to turn you out of your land. What counsel do you then give? 110 Then they advised Pharaoh: 'Put off Moses and his brother for a while, and send forth heralds to your cities 111 to summon every wellversed sorcerer to you' 112 And the magicians came unto Fir'awn. They said: surely there is for us a reward if we are the overcomers. 113 He said, 'Yes, indeed; and you shall be among the near-stationed.' 114 They said: "O Musa (Moses)! Either you throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?" 115 He said, "You throw [first]!" When they made their cast, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck them with awe, for they showed a great [feat of] magic. 116 And We revealed to Moses: 'Cast thy staff!' And lo, it forthwith swallowed up their lying invention. 117 ۞ Thus the truth was upheld, and the falsehood that they practised was exposed. 118 And Pharaoh and his people were overcome right there and became debased. 119 The sorcerers fell to the ground in homage, 120 They said: "We believe in the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Fir'awn said: believed ye in him ere I have given you leave? Verily this is a plot ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive forth the people thereof. So presently ye shall know. 123 Surely I will cut off your hands and feet on the opposite sides and thereafter I will crucify you all. 124 They said: Surely to our Lord shall we go back: 125 Will you punish us just because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Shower us with perseverance and cause us to die as those who have submitted [to You].' 126

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
