We seized Pharaoh's people with years of drought and scarcity of fruit so that they might remember. 130 But when good (times) came, they said, "This is due to us;" When gripped by calamity, they ascribed it to evil omens connected with Moses and those with him! Behold! in truth the omens of evil are theirs in Allah's sight, but most of them do not understand! 131 They said: 'Whatever sign you bring to us, to cast a spell upon us, we will not believe in you' 132 So We sent on them: the flood, the locusts, the lice, the frogs, and the blood: (as a succession of) manifest signs, yet they remained arrogant, and they were of those people who were Mujrimun (criminals, polytheists, sinners, etc.). 133 And when the plague fell upon them, they said: O Musa! pray for us to your Lord as He has promised with you, if you remove the plague from us, we will certainly believe in you and we will certainly send away with you the children of Israel. 134 But when We removed the punishment from them to a fixed term, which they had to reach, behold! They broke their word! 135 So We exacted retribution from them and drowned them in the sea, because they rejected Our signs and paid no heed to them; 136 We gave the persecuted nation dominion over the eastern and western lands which We had blessed. So the Word of your Lord, the finest, was fulfilled for the Children of Israel because of their patience; and We destroyed the edifices, and towers of Pharaoh and whatsoever they manufactured. 137 We took the Children of Israel (with safety) across the sea. They came upon a people devoted entirely to some idols they had. They said: "O Moses! fashion for us a god like unto the gods they have." He said: "Surely ye are a people without knowledge. 138 Lo! as for these, their way will be destroyed and all that they are doing is in vain. 139 He said: Shall I seek for you a god other than Allah when He hath favoured you above (all) creatures? 140 And that We saved you from Pharaoh's family, who had oppressed you cruelly, putting your sons to death and sparing your women. Surely, that was a great trial from your Lord' 141
