۞ It is He who created you from one soul and created from it its mate that he might dwell in security with her. And when he covers her, she carries a light burden and continues therein. And when it becomes heavy, they both invoke Allah, their Lord, "If You should give us a good [child], we will surely be among the grateful." 189 Thereafter, when He gave them a righteous son, they assigned Him associates in that He had given them; but God is high exalted above that they associate. 190 Do they associate (with Allah in His divinity) those who can create nothing; rather, they are themselves created? 191 No help can they give them, nor can they help themselves. 192 And if you call the disbelievers to guidance, they do not follow you; it is the same for you, whether you invite them or remain silent. 193 Verily, all those whom you invoke beside God are but created beings like yourselves: invoke them, then, and let them answer your prayer - if what you claim is true! 194 Do they have feet by which they walk? Or do they have hands by which they strike? Or do they have eyes by which they see? Or do they have ears by which they hear? Say, [O Muhammad], "Call your 'partners' and then conspire against me and give me no respite. 195 Lo! my Protecting Friend is Allah Who revealeth the Scripture. He befriendeth the righteous. 196 And those on whom you call, apart from God, have no power to help you, neither they help themselves.' 197 If you call them to guidance, they will not hear you. You see them looking towards you, but they cannot see. 198 Hold to forgiveness; command what is right; But turn away from the ignorant. 199 If an evil impulse from Satan provokes you, seek refuge with God; He is all hearing, and all knowing. 200 If the God-fearing are instigated by any suggestion of Satan, they instantly become alert, whereafter they clearly perceive the right way. 201 As for their brethren [the Satans], they draw them deeper into error and do not relax in their efforts. 202 And when you bring them not a revelation they say: Why do you not forge it? Say: I only follow what is revealed to me from my Lord; these are clear proofs from your Lord and a guidance and a mercy for a people who believe. 203 When the Qur'an is recited listen to it in silence. You may perhaps be blessed. 204 And do thou (O reader!) Bring thy Lord to remembrance in thy (very) soul, with humility and in reverence, without loudness in words, in the mornings and evenings; and be not thou of those who are unheedful. 205 Lo! those who are with thy Lord are not too proud to do Him service, but they praise Him and prostrate before Him. ۩ 206
