Jonah (Younus)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Alif-Lam-Ra*; these are verses of the Book of wisdom. (*alphabets of the Arabic language; Allah and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 Why should it seem strange to mankind that We sent revelations to a mortal among them, who would warn others and give to the believers the glad news of their high rank in the sight of God. The unbelievers have said, "He (Muhammad) is certainly a magician." 2 Verily your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and the earth in six days, and is firmly established on the throne (of authority), regulating and governing all things. No intercessor (can plead with Him) except after His leave (hath been obtained). This is Allah your Lord; Him therefore serve ye: will ye not receive admonition? 3 Unto Him is the return of you all - the promise of Allah is truth. Verily He beginneth the creation, then He shall repeat it, that he may recompense those who believed and did righteous works with equity. And those who disbelieved - for them shall be draught of boiling water and a torment afflictive for they were wont to disbelieve. 4 It is He Who created the sun radiating and the moon shining and appointed positions for it, for you to know the number of the years, and the account; Allah has not created it except with the truth; He explains the verses in detail for the people of knowledge. 5 In the alternation of night and day, and in all that God has created in the heavens and the earth, there are signs for a God-fearing people. 6 Those who do not expect to meet Us, and are well pleased with this life and are satisfied with it, and those who are inattentive to Our signs, 7 These! their abode shall be the Fire, for that which they have been earning. 8 But those who believe and act for a beneficial end will be guided by their Lord for their good faith. At their feet shall flow streams of running water in gardens of delight. 9 Their cry therein will be: hallowed be Thou! O Allah! and their greeting therein: peace! And the end of their cry will be: all praise unto Allah, the Lord of the worlds 10
