۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are the verses of the Book and the glorious Quran. 1 The disbelievers will ardently wish that if only they had been Muslims! (At the time of death / in their graves / on the Day of Resurrection.) 2 Leave them alone; let them eat and enjoy themselves the while the hope [of vain delights] beguiles them: for in time they will come to know [the truth]. 3 We never destroyed any town without pre-ordaining the fate of its people. 4 Every nation can only live for the time appointed for it. 5 And they say: O you to whom the Reminder has been revealed! you are most surely insane: 6 Why do you not bring down the angels if what you say is true". 7 [Yet] We never send down angels otherwise than in accordance with the [demands of] truth; and [were the angels to appear now,] lo! they [who reject this divine writ] would have no further respite! 8 then they would not be respited. It is We who have sent down the Remembrance, and We watch over it. 9 We sent Messengers to the ancient people who lived before you. 10 And never came a Messenger to them but they did mock him. 11 Thus do We make it to enter into the hearts of the guilty; 12 They do not believe in him, and the tradition of earlier nations has passed. 13 And [even] if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they continued therein to ascend, 14 Even then they would say, “Our sights have been hypnotised – in fact, a magic spell has been cast upon us.” 15
