The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of a clear Book, the Quran. 1 A time will surely come when those who are bent on denying the truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God, 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy, and let them be preoccupied with (false) hope. They will come to know! 3 Never a city have We destroyed, but it had a known decree, 4 No people can hasten or delay the term already fixed for them. 5 And they say: O you to whom the Reminder has been revealed! you are most surely insane: 6 Why dost thou not bring before us angels, if thou art a man of truth? 7 We send not the angels down except for just cause: if they came (to the ungodly), behold! no respite would they have! 8 We have sent down this Exposition, and We will guard it. 9 AND, INDEED, [O Prophet,] even before thy time did We send [Our apostles] unto communities of old 10 And there never came an apostle to them but they mocked him. 11 Even so We make a way for it (that is, the Admonition) in the hearts of the culprits (like a hot rod); 12 they believe not in it, though the wont of the ancients is already gone. 13 Though We opened to them a gate in heaven, and still they mounted through it, 14 They would surely say: intoxicated have been our sights; aye! we are a people enchanted. 15
