The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra'. These are the verses of the Book, and a Clear Qur'an. 1 The unbelievers would haply like to wish that they had submitted (and become Muslim). 2 Leave them that they may eat and enjoy themselves and (that) hope may beguile them, for they will soon know. 3 We never destroyed any town without pre-ordaining the fate of its people. 4 No nation can anticipate its term, nor delay it. 5 And they say, "O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad. 6 Why do you not bring to us the angels if you are of the truthful ones? 7 [Yet] We never send down angels otherwise than in accordance with the [demands of] truth; and [were the angels to appear now,] lo! they [who reject this divine writ] would have no further respite! 8 Verily We! it is We who have revealed the admonition, and verily We are the guardians thereof. 9 (O Muhammad), certainly We did send Messengers before you among the nations which have gone by. 10 But no Messenger came to them except he was mocked. 11 Thus do We insert denial into the hearts of the criminals. 12 who do not believe in it, although the way which those [evildoers] of olden times had to go has long been within their ken. 13 Even if We opened out to them a gate from heaven, and they were to continue (all day) ascending therein, 14 still they would say: 'Our eyes were dazzled; truly, we must have been a bewitched people' 15
