The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Ra. Those are the signs of the Book and of a manifest Koran. 1 Oft times would those who disbelieve fain that they had been Muslims. 2 Let them eat and enjoy themselves and be diverted by [false] hope, for they are going to know. 3 Not one habitation have We destroyed but at the time determined for it. 4 No nation can outstrip its term, nor do they put it back. 5 And they say: O thou unto whom the admonition hath been sent down! verily thou art possessed. 6 If you are a man of truth, why can't you bring the angels to us?" 7 [Yet] We never send down angels otherwise than in accordance with the [demands of] truth; and [were the angels to appear now,] lo! they [who reject this divine writ] would have no further respite! 8 Indeed We have sent down the Qur’an, and indeed We Ourselves surely are its Guardians. (This is one of the miracles of the Qur’an – no one has been able to change even one letter of its text, despite every effort. It has remained in its original form since the 6th Century (A. D) and will remain so forever. Other Holy Books such as the Torah and the Bible have lost their originality.) 9 We had also sent apostles to people of earlier persuasions. 10 And no messenger would come to them except that they ridiculed him. 11 Even so do we let it creep into the hearts of the sinners - 12 So, they will not believe in it: The example of former people is there. 13 And even if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they were to continue ascending thereto, 14 They would surely say: "Our eyes have been (as if) dazzled. Nay, we are a people bewitched." 15
