The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
99 verses, revealed in Mecca after Joseph (Yousuf) before Animals (Al-An 'aam)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ ALIF LAM RA. These are the verses of the Book and the perspicuous oration. 1 And it will come to pass that those who are [now] bent on denying this truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God [in their life time]. 2 leave them to eat, and to take their joy, and to be bemused by hope; certainly they will soon know! 3 And never have We destroyed any community [for its wrongdoing] unless a divine writ had [previously] been made known to it; 4 No community precedeth the term thereof nor doth it fall behind. 5 They say: 'You to whom the Remembrance is sent down, you are indeed mad. 6 Why do you not bring down the angels upon us, if you are truthful?" 7 We do not send down the angels except with truth; and the disbelievers would not then be reprieved. 8 Surely We have revealed the Reminder and We will most surely be its guardian. 9 We sent Messengers to the ancient people who lived before you. 10 And never came a Messenger to them but they did mock him. 11 even so We cause it to enter into the hearts of the sinners -- 12 They believe not therein, though the example of the men of old hath gone before. 13 Even if We open a door in the heavens and they ascend through it in broad daylight, 14 They will say all the same: "Our eyes were dazed (and clouded over). We were a people ensorcelled." 15
