The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are verses of the Scripture and a plain Reading. 1 Again and again will those who disbelieve, wish that they had bowed (to Allah's will) in Islam. 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy, and for aspiration to involve them in play – so they will shortly come to know. 3 Never did We destroy a population that had not a term decreed and assigned beforehand. 4 No nation will precede its term, nor will they remain thereafter. 5 They say: "O thou to whom the Message is being revealed! truly thou art mad (or possessed)! 6 Why do you not bring down the angels, if what you say is true' 7 We do not send down angels without reason, and if the angels descend they would not get any respite! 8 We Ourselves have revealed the Quran and We are its Protectors. 9 And certainly We sent (apostles) before you among the nations of yore. 10 And never came there unto them a messenger but they did mock him. 11 even so We cause it to enter into the hearts of the sinners -- 12 They will not believe in it, though they have before them the example of former peoples, 13 Even if We opened out to them a gate from heaven, and they were to continue (all day) ascending therein, 14 They would certainly say: Only our eyes have been covered over, rather we are an enchanted people. 15
