The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. These are the Verses of the Book, and a plain Quran. 1 Perhaps (often) will those who disbelieve wish that they were Muslims [those who have submitted themselves to Allah's Will in Islam Islamic Monotheism, this will be on the Day of Resurrection when they will see the disbelievers going to Hell and the Muslims going to Paradise]. 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy, and for aspiration to involve them in play – so they will shortly come to know. 3 And We did not destroy any city but that for it was a known decree. 4 No community precedeth the term thereof nor doth it fall behind. 5 They say: "O thou to whom the Message is being revealed! truly thou art mad (or possessed)! 6 Why do you not bring down angels upon us if you are indeed truthful?" 7 We send not the angels down save with judgment, and then they would not be respited. 8 We have, without doubt, sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard it (from corruption). 9 We had also sent apostles to people of earlier persuasions. 10 And never came there unto them a messenger but they did mock him. 11 So We make it enter the hearts of the sinners. 12 They do not believe in it even though the practice of the ancients has already gone. 13 If We were even to open for them a way to the heavens, and they could continually climb up to it in broad daylight, 14 they would have said, "Our eyes are bewildered and we have been affected by magic." 15
