The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ A. L. R. These are the Ayats of Revelation,- of a Qur'an that makes things clear. 1 How strongly the unbelievers will wish that they had been Muslims. 2 Leave them alone; let them eat and enjoy themselves the while the hope [of vain delights] beguiles them: for in time they will come to know [the truth]. 3 And We have not destroyed a town but there was therefor a decree known. 4 No nation can outstrip its term nor can they lag behind. 5 And they say: O thou unto whom the admonition hath been sent down! verily thou art possessed. 6 "Why bringest thou not angels to us if it be that thou hast the Truth?" 7 We do not send angels except with the truth. Then they shall have no respite. 8 then they would not be respited. It is We who have sent down the Remembrance, and We watch over it. 9 We did send messengers before thee amongst the religious sects of old: 10 And there never came an apostle to them but they mocked him. 11 even so We cause it to enter into the hearts of the sinners -- 12 They do not believe in the Truth and they exactly follow the tradition of the ancient (unbelievers) 13 Yet even had We opened to them a gateway to heaven and they had ascended, on and on, up to it, 14 they would surely have said, "It is only our eyes that are spellbound! Nay, we have been bewitched! 15
