The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of the Book and (of) a Quran that makes (things) clear. 1 And it will come to pass that those who are [now] bent on denying this truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God [in their life time]. 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy, and for aspiration to involve them in play – so they will shortly come to know. 3 Not one habitation have We destroyed but at the time determined for it. 4 Every nation can only live for the time appointed for it. 5 They say, "You to whom the Reminder [the Quran] has been sent down, you are surely possessed. 6 "Why do you not bring angels to us if you are of the truthful ones?" 7 We send not down the angels save with the Fact, and in that case (the disbelievers) would not be tolerated. 8 We Ourselves have revealed the Quran and We are its Protectors. 9 We had also sent apostles to people of earlier persuasions. 10 But never once an apostle came to them at whom they did not scoff. 11 This is how We cause the hearts of the guilty ones to behave. 12 That they should not believe in the (Message); but the ways of the ancients have passed away. 13 Even if We opened out to them a gate from heaven, and they were to continue (all day) ascending therein, 14 They would say, "Our eyes have only been dazzled. Rather, we are a people affected by magic." 15
