The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ AlifLaamRa. Those are the verses of the Book, the Clear Koran. 1 Perchance the unbelievers will wish that they had surrendered: 2 Let them eat and enjoy; and let their hopes deceive them, soon they shall know. 3 And We destroyed no township but there was a known decree for it. 4 Neither can a people anticipate its term, nor delay it. 5 They say: "O thou to whom the Message is being revealed! truly thou art mad (or possessed)! 6 "Why do you not bring angels to us if you are of the truthful ones?" 7 We do not send down the angels except with truth; and the disbelievers would not then be reprieved. 8 We have sent down this Exposition, and We will guard it. 9 And We had certainly sent [messengers] before you, [O Muhammad], among the sects of the former peoples. 10 And not an apostle came unto them but at him they were wont to mock. 11 thus We cause this [habit of mocking] to enter into the hearts of the sinful. 12 they believe not in it, though the wont of the ancients is already gone. 13 And if We open for them a gate in the heavens, to ascend it through the day – 14 they would have said, "Our eyes are bewildered and we have been affected by magic." 15
