Man We fashioned from fermented clay dried tingling hard, 26 And the jinn, We had created them afore of the fire of the scroching wind. 27 And (remember) when your Lord said to the angels: "I am going to create a man (Adam) from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud. 28 And when I have fashioned him and breathed into him of My spirit, bow before him in homage;" 29 So the angels made obeisance, all of them together, 30 save Iblis; he refused to be among those bowing. 31 (Allah) said: "O Iblis (Satan)! What is your reason for not being among the prostrators?" 32 "How could I bow," said he, "before a mortal whom You created from fermented clay dried tingling hard?" 33 "Go hence, execrable," (said the Lord), "from this place, 34 And indeed, upon you is the curse until the Day of Recompense." 35 He said: my Lord! respite me then till the Day whereon they will be raised up. 36 Answered He: "Verily, so be it: thou shalt be among those who are granted respite 37 Till the Day of appointed time. 38 He said, "My Lord, since You have let me go astray. I shall make the path of error seem alluring to them on the earth and shall mislead them all, 39 “Except those among them who are Your chosen bondmen.” 40 Said Allah, “This path* leads straight towards Me.” (* The path of the chosen bondmen.) 41 and you have no authority over My servants except the erring ones who follow you. 42 "And surely, Hell is the promised place for them all. 43 it has seven gates: and each gate has a portion of them allotted to it. 44
