We created man from sounding clay, from mud moulded into shape; 26 and the jinn created We before of fire flaming. 27 Behold! thy Lord said to the angels: "I am about to create man, from sounding clay from mud moulded into shape; 28 "So, when I have fashioned him completely and breathed into him (Adam) the soul which I created for him, then fall (you) down prostrating yourselves unto him." 29 So, the angels - all of them - fell down in prostration, 30 except iblis (father of the jinn) who refused to be one of those who prostrated themselves. 31 God asked Iblis, "What made you not join the others in prostration?" 32 [Iblis (Satan)] said: "I am not the one to prostrate myself to a human being, whom You created from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud." 33 (Allah) said: "Then, get out from here, for verily, you are Rajim (an outcast or a cursed one)." [Tafsir At-Tabari] 34 “And indeed you are accursed till the Day of Judgement.” 35 He said, "My Lord, then reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected." 36 Said Allah, “You are of those given respite.” 37 Until the Day of the time well-known." 38 He said, "My Lord, since You have let me go astray. I shall make the path of error seem alluring to them on the earth and shall mislead them all, 39 except those of Your servants whom You have singled out for Yourself." 40 (Allah) said: "This is the Way which will lead straight to Me." 41 “Indeed you do not have any power over My bondmen, except those wanderers who follow you.” (The devil is unsuccessful in tempting Allah’s chosen bondmen to commit sin.) 42 For whom the ordained place is surely Hell, 43 with seven gates leading into it, each gate receiving its allotted share of sinners. 44
