Surely We created man of a clay of mud moulded, 26 and the jinn We had created before from flaming fire. 27 And recall what time thy Lord said unto the angels: verily I am about to create a man from ringing clay of loam moulded. 28 So, when I have made him and have breathed into him of My Spirit, do ye fall down, prostrating yourselves unto him. 29 So the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together. 30 except iblis (father of the jinn) who refused to be one of those who prostrated themselves. 31 God asked him, "What is the matter with you, that you are not among those who have prostrated themselves?" 32 (Iblis) said: "I am not one to prostrate myself to man, whom Thou didst create from sounding clay, from mud moulded into shape." 33 Said Allah, “Therefore exit from Paradise, for you are an outcast.” 34 And lo! the curse shall be upon thee till the Day of Judgment. 35 He said: my Lord! respite me then till the Day whereon they will be raised up. 36 He said: So surely you are of the respited ones 37 for an appointed time." 38 [Iblis (Satan)] said: "O my Lord! Because you misled me, I shall indeed adorn the path of error for them (mankind) on the earth, and I shall mislead them all. 39 Except Thy servants from among them, the devoted ones. 40 (Allah) said: "This is the Way which will lead straight to Me." 41 Lo! as for My slaves, thou hast no power over any of them save such of the froward as follow thee, 42 being perverse; Gehenna shall be their promised land all together. 43 It has seven gates; for every gate there shall be a separate party of them. 44
