We created mankind from clay, molded from mud, 26 and before him We created the jinn from smokeless fire. 27 Behold! thy Lord said to the angels: "I am about to create man, from sounding clay from mud moulded into shape; 28 and when I have formed him fully and breathed into him of My spirit, fall down before him in prostration! 29 So the angels made obeisance, all of them together, 30 But Iblis (did it not); he refused to be with those who made obeisance. 31 He said: O Iblis! what excuse have you that you are not with those who make obeisance? 32 He said: I am not one to prostrate myself unto a mortal whom Thou hast created out of potter's clay of black mud altered! 33 (Allah) said: "Then, get out from here, for verily, you are Rajim (an outcast or a cursed one)." [Tafsir At-Tabari] 34 and the curse shall be on you till the Day of Judgement!" 35 He said, "My Lord, then reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected." 36 (Allah) said: "Respite is granted thee 37 unto the day of a known time.' 38 (Iblis) said: "O my Lord! because Thou hast put me in the wrong, I will make (wrong) fair-seeming to them on the earth, and I will put them all in the wrong,- 39 "Except Thy servants among them, sincere and purified (by Thy Grace)." 40 (Allah) said: "This is the Way which will lead straight to Me." 41 "For over My servants no authority shalt thou have, except such as put themselves in the wrong and follow thee." 42 For whom the ordained place is surely Hell, 43 Which has several gates, and each gate is marked for every section of them." 44
