AND, INDEED, We have created man out of sounding clay, out of dark-slime transmuted 26 and the jinn We had created before from flaming fire. 27 And (remember) when thy Lord said unto the angels: Lo! I am creating a mortal out of potter's clay of black mud altered, 28 "When I have fashioned him (in due proportion) and breathed into him of My spirit, fall ye down in obeisance unto him." 29 then the angels all prostrated themselves together. 30 except Iblis who refused to join with the others in prostration. 31 Allah said: O Iblis! what aileth thou that thou art not with the prostrates? 32 Iblis replied, "I did not want to prostrate before a human being whom You have created out of mud-moulded clay". 33 (Allah) said: "Then, get out from here, for verily, you are Rajim (an outcast or a cursed one)." [Tafsir At-Tabari] 34 And surely on you is curse until the day of judgment. 35 He said: My Lord! Reprieve me till the day when they are raised. 36 He said: Then lo! thou art of those reprieved 37 unto the day of a known time.' 38 [Whereupon Iblis] said: "O my Sustainer! Since Thou hast thwarted me, I shall indeed make [all that is evil] on earth seem goodly to them, and shall most certainly beguile them - into grievous error 39 "Except Thy servants among them, sincere and purified (by Thy Grace)." 40 God said, "The path which leads to Me is a straight 41 Verily as for My bondmen, no authority shalt thou have over them, except the erring one who follow thee. 42 Surely Hell is the promised place for all of them." 43 It has seven gates and each gate is assigned for a certain group of people. 44
